Montclair Orthodontics was founded by Dr. Bradly Irving and has served Oakland and the East Bay since 1994. Dr. Watts now continues that legacy of individualized care. He and his family have put down roots in Montclair, and building lasting relationships with patients, families, and the local dental community is at the center of how he practices. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At that age, Dr. Watts can spot crowding, crossbites, and jaw growth problems while there is still time to guide them. Early care might include a palatal expander, a thumb or finger habit appliance, or a short phase of braces for children. Many kids simply need monitoring. Our article How Young Is Too Young for Children's Braces? explains the timing.
Most comprehensive treatment happens once the permanent teeth are in. Our teen orthodontics program includes traditional braces, Damon self-ligating braces, Clarity clear braces, and Invisalign. Our post on the benefits of self-ligating braces explains how the Damon system works.
Plenty of adults choose orthodontic treatment, and they tend to be among the most consistent patients we treat. Adult braces, clear braces, and Invisalign can all fit a working life. Read Am I Too Old for Orthodontics? and our look at the latest advances in Invisalign technology.
Your exam decides the final plan. This table shows how each option works. You can also browse all of our orthodontic services.
| Option | How it works |
|---|---|
| Metal and mini-diamond braces | Brackets and wires give precise control for nearly any bite |
| Damon self-ligating braces | A built-in clip holds the wire instead of elastic ties |
| Clarity clear braces | Translucent brackets that blend with your enamel |
| Invisalign | Removable clear trays, worn about 20 to 22 hours a day |
| Palatal expanders | Widens a narrow upper jaw while a child is still growing |
